Our Story
The History of Design Workshop Foundation
Since the early 2000s, Design Workshop Foundation has been dedicated to expanding access to professional design services, particularly for communities that have historically lacked the social or financial means to engage landscape architecture and planning firms. What began as a simple idea: to use design as a tool for equity and empowerment, has evolved into more than two decades of meaningful partnerships and tangible community outcomes.
Through its 20-year history, Design Workshop Foundation has supported a wide range of pro bono design initiatives focused on community improvement, environmental stewardship, youth engagement, and nonprofit capacity building. From rural revitalization efforts in North Carolina to urban green space restoration in Colorado, each project reflects Design Workshop Foundation’s belief that good design should serve everyone.
